Glenwood earns Accreditation

Glenwood achieves EHNAC Health Information Service Providers Privacy & Security (HISP P&S) Accreditation!

Glenwood is proud to announce we have achieved full accreditation with the Health Information Service Providers Privacy & Security (HISP P&S) program from the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC) on May 25, 2019.

This accreditation recognizes excellence in health data processing and transactions, and ensures compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security provisions.

Through EHNAC’s comprehensive third-party review and onsite audit, it was determined that Glenwood’s process of managing and transferring protected health information met or exceeded EHNAC’s criteria and industry standards.

“The ability to provide critical third-party oversight to Trust Entities responsible for managing the digital credentials used by directed exchange users, including the private keys of participants, and for handling health information in a manner that is consistent with privacy and security laws such as HIPAA, is crucial in today’s healthcare environment where the threat of attack or breach are all too real,” said EHNAC Executive Director Lee Barrett.

“By achieving HISP P&S accreditation, Glenwood has demonstrated to existing and prospective stakeholders a trust and confidence that customer data will be managed with integrity and effectiveness.”

What's new at Glenwood?

The second quarter of 2019 continues to bring exciting changes to Glenwood! We continue to add new features to save you time and streamline efficiency. We're also making impressive technological advances in our software. Read on to learn more about what's been going on behind the scenes at Glenwood.

EMR update - A.I. Initiative

Glenwood strives to stay at the cutting edge of technology and we have begun exploring artificial intelligence (AI). As the first step of our AI Initiative, we have introduced an AI engine into our software to process and sort faxes.

The AI engine will begin processing each fax by first identifying the patient name and fax category; this will save time and be a great help for users who manually processes faxes in the system.

The AI system is unique in that it never stops learning. As the user makes changes in the system, the AI will continuously gather information and make suggestions to the user. Based on the user’s responses, the AI will continue to refine its suggestions and improve over time.

The AI fax sorting option will become available to customers soon. Our tech team will reach out to each customer when the feature has been activated in their account. We hope you are as excited as we are!

Billing update - IntelliClaim clearinghouse

Glenwood is working to add another insurance clearinghouse to interface with our software which will improve electronic claims submission and increase eligibility access to more payors.

Currently we offer the clearinghouse OptumInsight and, starting in August, we will activate the second clearinghouse, IntelliClaim, which is managed by the company Etactics.

The IntelliClaim clearinghouse applies appropriate edits to claims including National Coverage Decisions (NCD), Local Coverage Decisions (LCD) and Correct Coding Initiative (CCI).

Offering our customers a second clearinghouse creates a more robust verification process before claims are submitted, which decreases errors and the chance of claims being denied by payors.

You can learn more about Etactics and their IntelliClaim clearinghouse by visiting the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) section of their website: https://www.etacticsinc.com/edi#clearinghouse.

CMS announces medicare Part D final rule

CMS decided against a provision that would have excluded certain drugs from their formulary if the price increased beyond a certain threshold. Current provisions to prior authorizations and step therapy requirements were also maintained in the final rule.

How to avoid legal risks of tele-medicine

Physicians adding tele-medicine services must consider legal and compliance issues especially state licensure requirements; they will likely need a license to practice in multiple states if treating patients virtually. Rules vary by state, though there are options like the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact which allows physicians to practice in multiple designated states.

How to close gaps in care coordination

Common gaps must be addressed by the primary care physician to coordinate optimal care for the patient. Physicians should bring a coordinated care manager on board especially for more complex patient populations.

CMS proposes update to e-Prescribing standards

CMS proposed a rule to improve patients’ access to medications by updating the prior authorization process for Medicare Part D and requires providers verify the medication can be covered under the plan. This would update the e-prescribing program to ensure secure transmissions and expedite prior authorizations.

Changes will be effective January 1, 2021. CPT changes are specific only to Office or Other Outpatient Services codes, no inpatient or observation codes. Unless further changes are made, the changes will be included in the 2021 CPT codebook and payors will need to decide whether to adopt them.
